Madhuri Dixit, a *twinkling* star in the constellation? – The facts

Madhuri Dixit’s fans have named a star after her in the Orion constellation. The members of the Madhuri Dixit – The Empress presented her the certificate on the sets of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Here are the pictures of Madhuri with the certificate.

Her fans were elated to be presenting this honour to her. Madhuri herself tweeted about it saying, “Wanted to thank my fans for the honor. They had a star in the Orion Constellation named after me!”

Madhuri Dixit is not the only star to be sitting in outer space. The International Lunar Geographic Society has christened a lunar crater in the moon’s Sea of Tranquillity after Shah Rukh Khan.

How do you go about naming a star after someone? Apparently, the International Star Registry, founded in 1979 offers these services. It sells packages including framed and unframed certificates, personalized jewelry, plush toys, and pet rocks identifying “naming” of a star . However, it seems that the naming services are limited to an entry in the book and carries no scientific or official authenticity.

Interestingly, the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which is the internationally recognized authority which designates stars, planets, asteroids, comets, and other heavenly bodies according to internationally accepted rules, does not sell naming rights nor does it authorize any other company or organization to do so.

Well, whatever be it, I guess it is the thought that counts. Madhuri is and will always be adored by her fans; the star with the lightening smile.
